Handwoven on 8H Dobby Loom
This collection of woven samples aimed to introduce me to digital and hand-woven techniques that utilized a computer-dobby machine as an aid in designing these intricate fabrics. Each sample showcases my range of skills on the Dobby loom as well as my material and color sensibilities.
I approach material sampling by having a reference of colors and images I'm inspired by then I interpret what I see in my own way so that the reference is very subtle in the final sample.
Black hair politics is about how black hair is stigmatized in society. Something that's not celebrated in society devalued and broken down. Black hair is seen as something bad and unsuited for school and the workplace. Significance of hair in the context of the relationship between black people and their hair, and the symbolic significance of hair texture, length, and style in the psyche of black people and across the diaspora. Black hair is for the individual allows them to possess power, respect, and individuality. I focus this collection on all these qualities in mind bringing in anew fresh voice on how to represent this idea in my collection of fabrics.

Reference images of my chosen subject amber used as inspiration for all my samples from week 1-4. I wanted to focus on this subject capturing its color quality from within the environment its found in and the imagery inside  amber stones.
