(b. 1999 Miami, FL; lives/works in Miami, FL)
"Clippers grazing coiled hair, Blue Magic conditioner hair dress,  and alcohol mist a cloaked folding chair awaiting its steward. "Jevon Brown is Caribbean American (b. 1999) and holds a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design.
As a Multidisciplinary artist and designer, his work intimately explores black masculine kindred barbershops. Artifacts and cultural icons within his environments defy pattern, gravity, family roots, and personal history embedded within each fiber of his hair. He uses textiles to drape storytelling, connecting to his Miami Caribbean diaspora. Each thread of his fabric installations is imbued with black, queer affirmations, symbols, and colors. His practice cites popular culture, Caribbean poetry, and Queer yardie dynamics to question contemporary culture and the hyper-sexualized, masculine in the Caribbean diaspora.
Brown’s work has been shown in institutions such as the University of Miami Lowe Art Museum, Miami; The Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida; and Centrum Foundation, Port Townsend, Washington. He has been featured in Dwell Magazine’s 24 Global Emerging Designers List; Frieze Digital Art Basel 2023; and awarded the Inaugural Eleanor Merritt Fellowship at The Ringling Museum of Art. His residencies include Project Art, Miami, Florida; Centrum, Port Townsend, Washington,  and most recently Oolite Arts, Miami, Beach, Florida.
